Time Trial

The acsis VOB time trial is held every Wednesday evening at 6pm over a 5Km route around the Constantia suburbs.

The course takes you through the suburbs of Constantia before returning to the club house.

Collect an aluminium disc with your place number as you finish, and once you have caught your breath, return the disk and your name to Lynette.

The times are posted on the club notice board and on this web site within a week.

A quick email to keep you all up to date.

Congratulations to Stephen Farrell who set a new senior men’s record of 15.36 last week. His finishing time was 1 second faster than the previous time set by Patrick Magadla in 2009. Well Done Stephen!! He has been working at this since the beginning of the year.

Derry Devine ran his 300th time trial on 4th April and brought along yummy hot cross buns and jam for the runners the following week. Thanks so much Derry and congratulations.

We have had past members visiting us from overseas. Mark Chedburn joined us for a run before he tackled Two Oceans 56km and Lynn Bosch popped in to say hello to everyone last week. Great to see the two of you again.

There is a big rugby game on at the club this week and so the time trial will be run over a different route. We will start in the same place as the winter route; continue as normal until the Van Breda/Elizabeth intersection. DO NOT TURN RIGHT HERE, continue straight down into the dip and follow the road back to this intersection. You will then repeat this loop. We will have a marshal at this point to show you the way. On your way back, DO NOT TURN RIGHT INTO ALGOA WAY, but return the way you came along the pavement back to the entrance of the sports complex. This is where the finish will be set up. I suggest you park away from the rugby club as there has been grid lock here before when a match is on. (I hope that this is all clear to you)

The light is fading fast and so please start wearing your reflective belts, bibs etc from now on. Also wear light coloured clothing.

It is with much sadness that we heard if the tragic death of Lindy van Driel, a former VOB member, who was killed in a car accident on Easter Sunday. She ran the time trial regularly a few years back and was a person who had a kind heart and always fill of smiles. Condolences to her family and loved ones.

Climate change must be real - winter TT route in midsummer?  At least Lynette kept the rain away during the run even if the 'warm-up' was cold and wet.

There will be no holiday from time trial for you again this year, so come to the club and run off your mince pies and other decadent eats on 28th December.

We are having a time trial braai on 21st December after the run. I need a volunteer to start the fire while everyone is running. Please let me know if you keen to do this. It is a bring and braai, we will supply the fire and conversation. The bar will be open as well.

Thanks to all of you for making 2011 another enjoyable year at time trial. Thanks to all of you who have helped me – Steve, Barry Jenny, Linda, Sandy Nicole, Vince, Diana, Lesline, Wendy, Gail, Karen, Colleen, Debra, Rene, Pete, Debbie, Michelle, Derry and Marianne.

Best wishes to all of you for a wonderful festive season. If you are going to be travelling, travel safe. May all your dreams come true in 2012.

Love

Lynette
